Having recently started mine, I'm often inundated with well meaning advice of what and what not to do which can be a little confusing. So, I'd like to hear from those of you that are old hands at running their own show!

Start slow. Focus. Under-promise, over-deliver. Quote effectively by valuing yourself. Set "working" hours. Develop a routine. Be customer-focused, benefits not just features in selling your business to others.
