Is Australia behind the eight ball in terms of technology and understanding of it?

I was asked this question in an interview tonight and I explained as best I could that I felt that the average woman in Perth, Western Australia, has not had an awakening to the wonderful world that awaits them beyond their fingertips.

I'd be interested to know what other people's experiences are. Do you think Australia is behind in terms of it's use of technology, especially in relation to business or do you think that Americans just use technology differently and talk about it differently, creating an impression that they are more advanced?
